More tea vicar?
It’s not just one thing which causes issues between employees. It is however, normally a series of actions taken sometimes over multiple years.
There has been a recent case in London at the employment tribunal, where a nurse was in her opinion, left with no choice but to resign and go to tribunal.
She did so and won, £41,000 in fact, a not insignificant sum of money.
So, what happened?
HR in the NHS at her hospital made a mess of things for a start and maligned her and did not treat her in the way that she should have been and that the law says must happen.
The immediate lesson from this, is that internal HR whilst necessary can still make significant errors, and they did.
The nurse, has said she was harassed and bullied for over 2 years.
This included, not in fact being included. The person bullying her, made tea for everyone else and not for her, so she was excluded in the social circle. The person bullying her, would turn away with his back to her, whenever she had to do a presentation.
It has started simply enough with a difference of opinion between the two people, in terms of treatment for a patient. As it turns out, the female nurse was correct in her diagnosis, and this in turn put the male nurses nose out of joint and he set out to disagree with her over a 2 year period of time.
No surprise, eventually there was a grievance, again very badly dealt with by HR and only partially upheld.
Female nurse then felt she was left with no possible other outcome but to resign stating constructive dismissal, which was eventually proven right by the employment tribunal to the tune of £41K, a very expensive cup of earl grey indeed.
